Tucson's Most Trusted Transmission Shop

Sharps was built on transmissions — and we’re still one of the few shops in town that does this work right. A quality rebuild from us should take you another 100,000+ miles.

Turnaround on a rebuild is typically 7–10 days. We quote that window to cover any back-ordered parts — many jobs come in faster.

Is Your Transmission Trying to Tell You Something?

Most transmission problems get worse the longer they’re ignored. If you notice any of these symptoms, call us — early diagnosis saves money.

Slipping Gears

The transmission shifts out of gear unexpectedly or the engine revs without matching vehicle speed.

Delayed or Rough Shifting

Shifts that feel harder than normal, softer than normal, or take longer than they should to happen.

Grinding or Shaking

Vibrations or grinding sounds during gear changes are often signs of internal wear.

Fluid Leaks

Fluid is the lifeblood of an automatic transmission. A slow leak can quickly turn into a catastrophic failure.

Burning Smell

Overheated transmission fluid smells distinctly sharp or burnt — don’t ignore it.

Check Engine Light

Often the first indicator something’s wrong. We’ll pull the codes and diagnose the problem correctly.

Note: We do not perform transmission flushes. In our experience, full-flush machines frequently cause failure in transmissions that were running fine before. We offer a fluid service instead — replacing roughly 25% of the fluid — which gives you the benefits of fresh fluid without the risk.

What's Actually Worth Your Money?

Replacing your transmission — or rebuilding the one you have — almost always costs less than buying a new or used vehicle. That equation has changed a bit for newer cars, where transmission jobs can exceed $10,000, but it still holds for most situations.

The real question is how much you like the vehicle. If you’ve had it for 10 years, it’s paid off, and it runs great otherwise, a transmission rebuild makes a lot of sense. A proper rebuild from a shop with real experience should easily carry you another 100,000 miles.

Modern transmissions — especially in domestic vehicles — are designed to last 90,000 to 130,000–150,000 miles. That’s by design. When they reach that range, rebuilding is often the smartest option available.

FAQs

Transmission Questions, Answered Honestly

How long does a transmission rebuild take?

We quote 7–10 business days. We build in that window to account for back-ordered parts — every vehicle is different and parts availability varies. Many jobs are completed sooner.

How much does a transmission rebuild cost?

It depends heavily on the year, make, model, engine size, and specific damage. We give fast, accurate quotes using Mitchell 1 — usually within 10–15 minutes of your call. On newer vehicles, costs can reach $10,000 or more. We'll always give you an honest number upfront.

Do you work on European transmissions?

Yes. While we limit general electrical work on European vehicles (different diagnostic tools, specialty equipment), transmissions are transmissions — they all share the same fundamentals. We rebuild European transmissions regularly.

What warranty do you offer on transmission rebuilds?

Ask us directly — warranty terms vary by job. What we can tell you is that a properly rebuilt transmission from Sharps should last you at least 100,000 miles.

Do you price match?

Yes. Bring us a written estimate from a legitimate competitor shop and we'll match it.

Think You Have a Transmission Problem?

Don’t wait. Call us and we’ll get you a quote fast — or bring it in for a diagnostic.
